Coast to Coast AM 2/19/2010 [1/15] Twilight Zone & Great Stories

In the first half of the program, George was joined by sci fi writer Marc Zicree for a discussion on the 1960s anthology series, The Twilight Zone. According to Zicree, creator Rod Serling originally wanted to call the show “Odd Street.” Serling eventually settled upon — and coined the term — “Twilight Zone,” he added. Zicree said Twilight Zone endures to this day because it was done “superlatively well” and presented “great truths” over the course of its 156-episode run.

Serling, who wrote ninety-two episodes himself, often focused on the nature of identity, Zicree continued. Serling believed the greatest fear of all was “fear of the unknown working on you, which you cannot share with others,” he explained. Zicree also shared the story of finding un-filmed Twilight Zone scripts in Serling’s attic, as well as talked about his work recording commentaries for the upcoming Blu-ray release of the series.

Throughout the interview, George played audio clips from various episodes (A Kind of a Stopwatch, The After Hours, And When the Sky Was Opened, and Eye of the Beholder) to test Zicree’s knowledge of the series. Zicree passed with flying colors.

—————————————

The latter half of the show was devoted to Open Lines. George offered a special hotline for callers to share the greatest stories they’ve ever heard or experienced. Star in California recounted a creepy Ouija Board experience. Star said she and her friends made their own board from instructions contained within a spell book. Using a coin as their planchette, which Star maintained “moved on its own,” the board revealed letter-by-letter the entity with whom they were communicating: D-E-V-I-L. Star admitted to playing the board by herself with similar eerie results.

Mike in Livermore, California, recalled a time from his “misspent youth” when he jumped a Honda 175 motorcycle off the steep incline leading up to a railroad crossing. As he soared fifteen feet into the air, Mike discovered a line of traffic was stopped immediately on the other side of the tracks, where he needed to land. Mike said he narrowly avoided crashing, maneuvered around some cars, and came to a sudden stop next to a sheriff’s car. Astonished onlookers cheered his Evel Knievel like stunt, Mike added, noting that he quickly took off and got into an accident just two blocks down the road.

Brook from Newport, Rhode Island, told George he used to live around the corner from the house of the late Ozzie Nelson, star of The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet and father of singer-actor Ricky Nelson. “The whole area seemed extremely haunted,” Brook disclosed, pointing out some of the weird goings-on that have occurred in the neighborhood. According to Brook, Ozzie Nelson’s ghost has been seen in his old home by family members. A mansion that once housed legendary film actor Errol Flynn and the notorious Charles Manson Family, but which now lies in ruin, reappears on some summer nights, he said. In addition, Brook claimed that on certain full moon nights several hundred people would be engaged in Satanic rites in the park.

How do I properly quote poetry from an anthology book?

Posted by admin on February 26th, 2010 and filed under poetry anthology | 1 Comment »

Help?

Are we talking MLA or APA?

If it is MLA, then here’s an example:

Bradstreet, Anne. “In Memory of My Dear Grandchild Anne Bradstreet.” The Norton Anthology American Literature: Seventh Edition Volume A. Ed. Nina Baym. New York, London: Norton & Company, 2007. 210-11.

You start with the name of the poet followed by a full stop. Then between quotation marks the title of the poem, again followed by a full stop. Then you name the title of the anthology you’ve taken the poem from and UNDERLINE this (YA does not allow me to underline in my answer), also followed by full stop. Then follows the name of the editor of the anthology, then the place followed by a colon after which you mention the publisher, and after the comma the year of publication. Then again a full stop followed by the page numbers where the poem you quoted from can be found.

In your text a long quote (several lines) will be indented, followed by the numbers of the lines between brackets at the end, looking like this "(ll. 15-8)" [= lines 15 to 18]
A short quotation will be in your text between quotation marks, also followed by the numbers of the lines. Do not forget to mention from which poem your quotation is.

What is the latest news on Randy Orton’s theme song, "Voices" by Rev Theory?

Posted by admin on February 26th, 2010 and filed under anthology cd | 5 Comments »

What is the latest news on the song? Like if its gonna be on WWE’s new Anthology II CD and stuff.

I’d say more than likely. But no beyond Rev Theory confirming that they sung it, no news about it.

Will wwe release survivor series and summerslam anthologies?

Posted by admin on February 26th, 2010 and filed under anthologies | 2 Comments »

i hope so. i fear that the survivor series anthology will be a lot like the royal rumble anthology. the summerslam anthology should have a lot of great matches and prolly would be like the wrestlemania anthology.

A Survivor Series anthology would be great for these reasons and (expect to see one in December or January 2008)

*SS 2006(DX, CM Punk, The Hardys, Taker, Batista, Cena, RVD, Lashley, and more… star studded)
*SS 2005(Team RAW vs Team Smackdown, Return of Undertaker)
*SS 2004(Team RAW vs Smackdown)
*SS 2003(Goldberg vs Triple H, Austin’s team vs Bischoff’s team)
*SS 2002(First Elimination Chamber match, Brock F-5 to Big Show, and the triple threat tag match with Edge and Rey vs Guerreros vs Angle and Benoit)
*SS 2001(Match with WCW/ECW vs WWE)
*SS 2000(Austin vs Triple H where Austin dropped HHH from the forklift thing while HHH is in the car)
*SS 1998(Rock turns heel and joins the corproation)
*SS 1997(Vince screwed Bret…)
*SS 1996(Austin vs Bret part 1)

As for Summerslam
*SuSl 05- HBK vs Hogan, Cena vs Jericho, Orton vs Taker
*SuSl 04- Orton winning the belit, Taker vs JBL
*SuSl 03- Elimintaion Chamber Part 2, Angle vs Brock
*SuSl 02- Rock vs Brock, HHH vs HBK(HBK first match in 4 yrs)
*SuSl 00- First TLC match, Rock vs Angle vs HHH
*SuSl 98- Rock vs HHH in ladder match, Austin vs Taker
*SuSl 95- Ladder match with HBK vs Razor Ramon

i need an anthology

Do you think this poem would be a good choice to submit for a fantasy anthology of poety?

Posted by admin on February 26th, 2010 and filed under poem anthology | 11 Comments »

Um, I’m a little nervous with actually sharing my own stuff with total strangers…or having it critiqued. Basically, I read a lot of Fantasy, and the poem is supposed to have a innocent, whimsical tone to it. I was thinking about submitting it to an anthology, but I’m not sure?
Thanks.

Pleiades

Do you remember the night
when we sat together looking
down from the stars.
When I finally told you
that I had no real magic
of my own;
that I was just a
normal girl after all.
And you smiled and
said that we
had better be getting
down then.
You took my hand and
helped me so that I
wouldn’t trip over the
moonbeams.

Did you know I have a 90,000 word novel that I’m just SITTING ON because I don’t have the balls to let an industry professional look at it?

SUBMIT!!!

The worst that can happen is that they’ll send you a form letter that says, "We are sorry to inform you that your material does not meet our current needs."

The best would be that they would publish you, and YOU WOULD BE ON YOUR WAY!

I’m not a big poetry guy, but I found the sentiments of your poem charming and bittersweet. It beats the shit out of a lot of the stuff people post here.

SUBMIT!!!!

EDIT:

I would star this, but I’m not sure you want the R&S smartass attention. But you already know how I feel about your writing…

EDIT:

I’m going to respectfully disagree with Idyllic Scribe. ‘real magic of my own’ works for me. It alludes to the existence of true magic and illusory magic. The person in the poem is acknowledging that ‘real’ magic exists and that a sort of illusory magic also exists. And that while she may possess the illusory sort, and while she may experience the true sort, she does not believe she possesses the true magic within herself. (I’m obviously reading this poem to be a female speaking to a man)

At the same time, She IS experiencing true magic, or how else would she be up among the stars? The man seems to possess the real magic, in the eyes of the woman in the poem (to me, anyway) because he is the one who leads her back down to earth, who holds her hand and guides her back down.

so I felt that eliminating the phrase ‘real magic of my own’ would actually harm the romantic quality of the poem. It would simplify it and rob it of some of the melancholy undertone.

Just my opinion, of course.

Has there ever been a horror anthology film with multiple directors?

Posted by admin on February 26th, 2010 and filed under anthology | 1 Comment »

The only ones I can think of are Tales From the Darkside and the Creepshow series but those only have one director. Has there ever been one where each segment was written and/or directed by different people?

I think Grindhouse was like that. That’s the double feature movie that Tarantino and Rodriguez did a couple of years ago.
