Am I the only Beatles fan who absolutely hates the Anthology albums ?

The unreleased stuff was good, OK, but… Glass Onion.
No. The version of Glass Onion on Anthology 3.

And Mean Mr. Mustard… I just hated that version.

Well the thing is that the Beatles music has been a global passion and phenomenon the world over for close to 50 years now. The Anthology Series was not meant to replace the classic studio tracks that have become the soundtrack to our lives, the series was designed to let us in the creative aspect of the Beatles musical process and evolution. The Anthology was as much to do with producer George Martin as is was John, George, Paul and Ringo.

The entire project allows you insight and a different vantage point to a band that is, short of Elvis Presley, probably the most important artistic and culturally significant band in the history or Rock N Roll… Sure "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love" were shameless… but the Anthology series stands as a valuable document of the Beatles legacy… the music takes a back seat to the documentaries.

    yes

*edit* i actually don’t own them, i just have all of their studio albums on cd, but i think those cd’s aren’t bad, but i can admit they are inconvienent since they don’t have all of their good songs (whicn is almost all of them) in one anthalogy set.

*edit again* are you talking about their Love Album?

I wasn’t crazy about the remixing of some songs, but I loved the inclusion of the unreleased stuff. (even though they’d been on bootlegs for ages)

Agree w/ beatles maniac. If anything, it was interesting to hear how songs evolved. I actually heard the quiet version of "I’m Looking Through You" on the radio once.

Well, I like hearing some of the songs live, because they’re better than the studio album’s version (*sometimes*), and I like listening some of the recordings of the Beatles just messing around in the studio trying different chord progressions or harmonies in familiar Beatle songs.

….On Anthology 1, go listen to Eight Days a Week [False Starts] It’s very interesting to hear how they progressed in that song. Those are the kind of things I like about the Anthology CDs…

I know a few Beatles fans that don’t care for the anthology releases. I enjoyed listening to the studio recordings. And behind the scene sort of stuff. Listening to some of that stuff makes you realize just how much talent these guys had. Alot, or at least some bands of today rely on the studio to improve their work. The Fab Four however were naturally talented. They used the recording studio because they wanted to, they loved to experiment. Not because they sounded like two cats with their tails tied together. Or some constipated guy on the crapper! Alot of those people should thank The Beatles, for without their insight and curiosity of the recording process, most of todays bands probably wouldn’t exist! But I digress….The Anthology albums were interesting to say the least. But probably not top shelf for the casual Beatlemaniac.

I only have 1 and 2. I especially like the live songs they have.
And i like seeing how the songs were originally practiced, and what they became. (like I’m Looking Through You)

And hearing them talk about the songs and stuff, i like it.
