Duane Allman Anthology (cover) Mark Galloway

I first heard this song as a youngster on Duane’s Anthology album. This is a Bob Dylan song. It was covered by Johnny Jenkins with Duane on slide guitar. Duane recorded this while doing session work at Muscle Shoals as a youngster. His slide on this tune was played on an old ‘54 Strat that he used on most of his sessions back then.

I used to play this with my friend Fred Rucker. We reprised it this year at the Oklahoma City Arts Festival.

My version is a little faster. I played all of the guitars, bass and sang the vocal. On Johnny Jenkins version Duane traded solos with a harmonica. I substituted a Les Paul for the harp. The slide guitar is tuned to open E. This was a fun project.

I wish I could find a bottle that won’t break. I broken a few over the years. Glass has a sweeter tone than brass or steel.
