The Beatles – Real Love (Anthology Version)

A really well written piece by John Lennon that came out on Beatles Anthology 2. There are a lot of videos for this particular song, but here is some other info about that might be interesting:

“Real Love” is a song written by John Lennon. “Real Love” was subsequently reworked by the three remaining members of The Beatles (Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr) in late 1995. The song was released as a Beatles single in 1996 in the United Kingdom, United States and many other countries; it was the opening track on The Beatles’ Anthology 2 album. It is the last “new” credited Beatles song to originate and be included on an album.

“Real Love” was warmly received by some critics, and the single reached #4 and #11 in the UK and US singles charts respectively and earned a gold record faster than a number of the group’s other singles. The song was not included on the British Broadcasting Corporation’s Radio 1 playlist, prompting criticism from fans and members of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.

After the release of “Free as a Bird” and “Real Love”, Starr commented, “Recording the new songs didn’t feel contrived at all, it felt very natural and it was a lot of fun, but emotional too at times. But it’s the end of the line, really. There’s nothing more we can do as The Beatles.”

    I have never heard …
I have never heard the Beatles referred to as a “boy band.” That is certainly not the historical context in which they existed, but I suppose one could see their early years that way. Still, they went far beyond being just a big rock act. In fact they completely stopped touring and performing live (with exception of the concert on the roof in “Let It Be.”) And that is when their creativity really burst forth.

    I lived through it …
I lived through it all, but that does not mean that my relationship to the music is more meaningful or more powerful than yours. The Beatles’ music is there to be discovered by all who come upon it–now and forever. I feel the same way about certain classical composers who lived before my time, but whose music literally brings me to tears. We can live in the present and still enjoy and love all that has been created in the past.

yea its too hard to …
yea its too hard to do because you pretty much have to be a boy band and the band has to be good at playing instruments and be able to write music. Thats why the beatles did so well because they were able to transform so much from a boy band pretty much to a big rock act. its pretty much like the jonas brothers turning into a rock band or like older bands such as the backstreet boys. i know for a fact the jonas brothers wont be able to turn into something more serious and other boy bands wont.

I was born just in time for the Beatles. I saw them live on Ed Sullivan and I grew up with them. They were central in my life through the 60’s, I saw Hard Day’s Night and Help when they were both new in the movies. I cried unashamedly when John Lennon was killed…did the same when George died too. I was born in 53 and was a child of the 60’s and I’ll never forget The Beatles.
