In January, 2010, American organist James Hicks recorded a double-CD anthology of Romantic and Contemporary Organ Music by Nordic Composers on the 1920s vintage Setterquist pipe organ in Linköping Cathedral in Linköping, Sweden. In this video profile, we hear Dr. Hicks as he describes the attributes of the Setterquist pipe organ, and hear him in performance of the opening movement of Oskar Lindberg’s Organ Sonata in G minor. We also meet Fredrik Sixten, one of the leading Swedish composers, who was commissioned by Dr. Hicks to write a substantial new work for organ, which is included in the Double CD set from the Pro Organo label.

I thought the video …
I thought the video was very informative and well done. Being an organist myself, I have never been aware of this Swedish tradition, and yet I am in vocal music. the instrument sounds utterly magnificent, as well as beautiful subtle colours.
Sincere congratulations on exploring this history!
