Sophie Tucker was a popular white blues and torch songstress who produced her best work in the 1920&#039;s and &#039;30s.
The &quot;Group&quot; reference, could have been a reference to her size. (She was a big gal.) In all probability,though, it was just a humourous remark.
This was the same gig that John Lennon used his (in)famous invitation for the people in the cheap seats to clap their hands along with the music and the rest to just rattle their jewlery.
The remark was pre-staged, and originally proposed to contain an expletive. Luckily for the Beatles career, John didn&#039;t make good on his threat to use the &#039;F&#039; bomb!&lt;br&gt;&lt;b&gt;References : &lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;Numerous books on the &quot;Fab Four&quot;</description>
