Fighters Anthology Frontal Assault

the video qualiy is quite poor since I only used Windows Movie maker to edit it, resulting in a serious quality degradation; something odd is that upscaling it to 720p resulting in a clearer texts, and overall image quality than 640×480 huge AVI video, this wasn’t expected.

FA meet Ace Combat, an epic dogfight between 2 sides, I’m seriously wondering why the original missions designs were not these epic, although this is already on the edge of what the game engine permit, too bad it has such limitation, I thought it could scaled up with today hardware :(

a note about the gameplay is that the fighters capabilities are not really balanced between the western fighters versus the russians due to the higher speed of the western missiles and slightly more accurate than russian counterparts, this is something I want to ‘fix’ it with the toolkit, the author of JKPFA himself said that he may slow them down.

with the rebalancing, perhaps the mission will be in fact a lot harder than this and I may need to errr… dumb it down to a certain level :D the objectives was to gain air superiority and then destroying 2 battalions of tanks, I designed these tanks to be concentrated on 2 spots making them easily to kill with 2 cluster bombs but the area is defended by several SAMs and AAAs, actually some of the allied force are tasked with SEAD against these AA defense but it seems that they’re always get wiped both by the fighters and the AA defense itself lol.

in case something wondering what was the original mission, the original mission was to destroy a bridge, it was/(and)is a far quieter mission, although with JKPFA it is already slightly harder.

Lastly, yes I was deliberately not trying to win this mission, this is not a walkthrough, just a show off on what I did with the game, and sharing on how epic this old sim could be.

For those don’t know, Fighters Anthology was released around 1998 but the engine itself was first used on 1994 US Navy Fighters so this is actually a 16 years old game! It’s quite mind boggling how a 16 years old game could be this complex and epic although I know there are several much more realistic jet sims around 1998 however in 1994 there was fewer, and truth is no other jet sim until this day have the almost perfect balance between sim, action, epic feeling, replay value and the customization of the FA series or name other flight sim that allow you to fly nearly 100 aircrafts by default? AFAIK none… the closest you can get are pure arcadey like Ace Combat and Hawx. But don’t really count my statement since I never played sims such as F15 (micropose and jane’s) or Falcon 4., or even LoMAC, however it is an assumption based on what I’ve seen here on youtube :D

anyway enjoy the video, once again sorry for the quality, although it’s on 720p, it’s actually scaled up from 800×600.

well it definitely have bigger internal fuel than the previous blocks, as for the shape it’s all the same since nobody do the shape editing.

as for modifying the missiles, actually I may nerfed down AMRAAMS, AIM9X, IRIS-T and ASRAAM’s accuracy a bit to make it more balanced in gameplay, this ain’t reality :p however the range would be extended.

as for cobra manuver, the game is too primitive for that lol…

I have to hand it to you, nap… you make some serious furball mission vids! I’m surprised anyone got outta that fight w/o ejecting, lol..

Nice evading incoming AAMs btw, until the chaff ran out :(

Nice 52+, clever – can you modify to carry CFT? :D

My questions for you: can you modify the AIM-120C performance to the -7 series? And… how about modifying a cobra for the Su-35? lol.

SWH – that looked like a YF-22 tail.

without the f22 help the western would have lost more easily….that’s still without missiles fixing.
