i don’t understand the poem …

I’m in yr13 now, but i had to do this at GCSE. I would avoid answering it at all costs, because theres not that much to say and it doesn’t link to other poems. Try to focus on the poems with deeper meaning such as the one about the scorpian and the mother tongue and the indian clothes (i’ve forgotten the titles sorry!). when i did this i went on bbc bitesize they have summarized stuff on a lot of the poems in the anthology

I have the Green Day bass anthology (or at least it’s in the post) and it has some great songs from America Idiot but there’s only about 3 of them. I think i’ve seen the bass book for the American Idiot broadway show but i’m not sure if it’s got the entire album in it. Or is it what i’m looking for? Thanks in advance!

I honestly don’t have an all-time favorite or whatever, but I want to know what you think. Try to convince me which one I should choose as my favorite.

PS I have every single song by The Beatles on CD’s except for the George Martin instrumentals and the anthologies.

I’m currently writing an anthology of short stories for children. I have limited each story to 1,000 words-1,200 words only but I think it is too short. Is it ok to extend the word amount to 2,000 words? some of my works have been accepted by online magazines which limit the short stories to 1,200 maximum but there many online companies or competition that allow short stories up to 5000 words. However, they are not really meant for kids.

1,000 words is very short – fine for an online magazine that publishes very short fiction, but probably a bit short for an anthology. You could have *some* stories as short as that, but probably not all of them unless you’re aiming at *very* young children (ie, 5 year olds). If you’re aiming at kids of, say, 8 – 11 or older, then you should be aiming to have most of your stories anywhere between 3,000 and 8,000 words, or even longer if need be.

Take a look at some short story compilations aimed at the same target audience – if you’re writing one, presumably you’ve read some books of that nature. Look at the lengths of the stories in them and aim for something similar.

My english literature test is in May and since its march im so freaking out !
I am doing poetry anthology 1 and i need to know all 14 poems analysed in order
to do the 2 that will be in the exam. I have 50 mins to write this poetry essay in
the exam.. about 3 file pages long but i need help. i sort of need the best advice
and checklist on how to write the perfect essay on poetry as I want to keep on english
for A level. Like how to i start it of when comparing and contrasting. and what are ALL the
things you look for to write about in order to get very close to full marks.

I need someone who is confident about this and has previously done very well in it
..and its anthology 1 not 2 .. please help and thanks so much if you do!

Do you have access to the specific poems you are going to work with? If you do great pre write your essay and have the main points memorized. Problem solved.
In an essay on poetry if the poetry, your writing about is long, and you only have access to it at test time you better know your poetry term and be able to identify them fast : Know what a metaphor is, an allusion, allegory, alliteration, rhyme scheme, etc. Pick out the first one you can spot on each poem and compare and contrast how each poets use metaphors in a similar way and a different way.
This is going to be a tough essay compare and contrast essays are tough. Why don’t you email me and give me specifics so I have a better understanding how to help you.

I read A C Grayling’s anthology "The Meaning of Things" which has an essay titled "Lying" and was trying to find any authors who wrote on truth and lying as issues in moral philosophy, since Grayling’s piece doesn’t have much depth. Nobody seems to address this issue besides Grayling, Kant and Montaigne, and they deal with it very briefly.
Has anyone a suggestion for reasonably substantial works? I need some talking points for a lecture I’m preparing.

Kant wrote about lying. He used lying as the example in his earliest formulation of the Categorical Imperative, which appears in his Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals.

He revisits lying with his additions to his first formulation of the CI in later works as well.

its in MLA Format

Usually you cite the author, where it was published and the year and the title of the work and you include the Anthology reference as well so others can find it if they wish to do so. The problem is if you would have told us what format you are using, MLA, APA, whatever, I would have done it for you but as a general example here ya go:

Dietric, B. (2011). Mrs. Johnsons Dishes: Anthology, True Stories From the Heartland. Boston, Ma. Boston University Press

That’s a general format for APA and it is close to MLA and Chicago but if you are using one of those just take that and make it fit into that format.For example you use Print at the end for MLA. In any case hope it helps.

I have a APA format research paper and I have multiple sources from a single anthology, with the same editor but not the same piece titles. What is the proper way to organize these on a reference page? By year of publication or title of the short essay in the anthology? Thanks in advance.
